Trending: Adidas

Adidas Superstars.

The sneakers that took 2015 by storm.

I, personally, am obsessed with this trend and want to extend a big thank you out to RUN D.M.C. for making these bad boys popular back in the day. We all know fashion repeats itself and this is one trend I’m glad to see made a comeback.
Living in Seoul, South Korea for the past year I am here to tell you that Superstars were undoubtedly the biggest fashion trend of 2015 in Korea. Everyone, and by everyone I mean EVERYONE has a pair.
And seeing as my personal style is highly influenced by that of Korean streetwear, Superstars quickly made their way into my heart.
But why do I love them so much? And why do I think you will love them to?
Superstars have the ability to complete your outfit, adding edginess while still keeping a sense of sophistication. Their minimalistic charm allows versatility that can literally work with every concept.

One of my favorite streetwear photographers, Alex Finch (who shot the pics above, find her work @iamalexfinch) was able to capture the charm that Superstars can add to an outfit. Although the concepts differ greatly from one another the simplicity of a sneaker adds for a clean-cut finish to each outfit.
You’ve already opened another tab and you’re searching for where you can cop a pair, right? I don’t blame you. As a matter of fact, if I were you I’d get one in each color.

Model Spotlight: GiGi Hadid

If you’ve been keeping up with magazines within the last year or so, then you have probably realized that one blonde haired, blue eyed beauty has been popping up a lot more than some of the others throughout the pages.

Gigi was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, which is where she got her start as a model. When she was just two years old, she was discovered by Paul Marciano of Guess. She started modeling for Baby Guess, but stopped for a while so she could focus on school.

Gigi attended Malibu High School, where she was captain of the volleyball team and a competitive horseback rider. In 2012, a year before graduating high school, she got back into modeling. That same year, she was named the face of Guess’ new campaign. To this day, she has done 3 Guess campaigns as an adult.

In 2014, Gigi made her New York Fashion Week debut in Desigual’s show. She has also appeared on the covers of Vogue, Vogue Spain, and Teen Vogue, to name a few.

In 2014, Gigi appeared on the cover of Carine Roitfeld’s CR fashion book. She also appeared in spreads in VMAN, Elle, Grazia, Cleo, Vogue, Sports Illustrated, Paper Magazine and many more.

In July 2014, she starred alongside Patrick Schwarzenegger in Tom Ford’s autumn/winter eyewear campaign.

Gigi has also made her debut in the music world by starring in various artist's music videos such as Cody Simpson and Miguel. Most recently she's been in Taylor Swift’s famous “Bad Blood” music video as well as Calvin Harris’ “How Deep Is Your Love”.

All in all, this 5'11" California beauty is definitely a model to watch. She keeps getting bigger and bigger in the fashion world and we at SMDA couldn't be happier for her. She truly seems like she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.

We cannot wait to see where her sparkly star takes her!

xoxo,

Abbey

NYFW: PLUS+

For the first time in history, New York Fashion Week has expanded to include plus size models from around the country. The body positivity movement did, in fact, make it all the way to Fashion Week. Co-Founders Selena Weekes and Brandee Joyner wanted to make this groundbreaking event a showstopper, and did so by including a strong group of models that represented plus size women with a bang.

The designers represented in NYFW+ are Oseas Villatoro, Tatiana Castro, Marco Hall, Phoenyx Reign, Ava Jones, Danielle Ferguson, Harvest Powell, and Eula Taylor.

Legendary plus model Ashley Graham owned the runway in her new lingerie collection with Addition Elle. The motto was “I am size sexy,” empowering plus women to view themselves as such.

This event made Fashion Week history and has already shone a positive light on high fashion for plus size women. It can only continue to improve from here! #iamsizesexy

NYFW: Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang, the iconic designer who recently stepped down from Balenciaga in July, celebrated his 10-year anniversary this NYFW. Wang is famously known for his black urban wear that celebrities flock to; including Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and Lady Gaga (Who all sat front row.) For his 2015 NYFW collection, Wang went back to his street wear roots with an avant-garde army inspired look that was bursting with fishnet tops, oversized hoodies, and frayed denim. The show began with a chain-strapped bra top with low hanging striped pants and ended with fringed leather and a wild after party.

Take a look at some of SMDA's favorite looks from Wang's show!

NYFW: Tory Burch

Tory Burch’s Spring/Summer 2016 show for NYFW was rife with dreamy designs in saturated hues such as marigold, periwinkle, and coral. She also made sure to anchor her collection with plenty of cream-colored pieces featuring intricate patters and iridescent finishes. Finely tuned details including lace, fringe, and embroidery added the signature boho-inspired touch that Tory has come to be known for while incorporating the 70’s flair that has popped up in many of the designers’ shows this week.  A mix of both structured and airy pieces were seen in the show, perhaps in an effort to reveal that Tory really does have something for everyone. We know you’re already day dreaming about sporting these pieces on your next trip to The Maldives; until then, browse through some of our favorite looks from the show below:
