1. Pick up a good read: Fall Break is the perfect time to catch up on all the reading you've been wanting to do, but haven't quite gotten around to yet, this semester. Whether you're the type to browse through this month's copy of Vogue while sipping your pumpkin spice latte, or bury yourself in a fun memoir like Alexa Chung's It, be sure and take a break from the business and relax with a good read.
2. Clean out your closet: At this point in the year, you've probably gotten a good idea of which pieces you still wear on a regular basis, and which ones it's time to let go of (to free up space for new ones, of course!) What better time to de-clutter your closet than over the break? For most of us, this is a lengthy and sometimes emotional process, so save yourself the stress and commit to working in sections. Try and think about whether or not you've worn something within the last year; if the answer is no, chances are it's time to get rid of it. Collect your garments that are still in good condition and take them to a consignment store, and donate the rest- good for your wallet and your conscience!
3. Weatherproof your shoes: Cold temperatures, winter rain, and potential salt from icing will take a toll on your leather shoes. We recommend spraying down any pairs you can with a weatherproofing spray, like Scotchgard's Leather Protector, to get the most out of your shoes and boots.
4. Shave your sweaters: You've probably noticed plenty of pills forming around the underarms, sleeves, and backs of your favorites sweaters, particularly those made of wool and cashmere. Get rid of sweater pills fast with an electronic sweater shaver, like our affordable yet effective pick from The Container Store. Go ahead and get all of your sweaters in mint condition, so they'll be ready to throw on in a flash before heading to your early classes.
5. Start planning for the Holidays: Now is the perfect time to get a head start on your Holiday planning, be it parties you want to throw, outfits you want to wear, recipes you want to whip up, or gift lists for your friends and family. For your outfit planning, keep an eye out for statement accessories that can be interchanged with any Holiday look, like a sparkly clutch, statement earring, or stand out pair of heels.
